Dreaming of pitching an article for publication for the first time and don’t know where to begin? Or are you a journalist now looking to up your freelance game, gain tips and refine your pitches in a fiercely competitive and ever-changing field? Discover everything that goes into a stand-out pitch in this 90-minute online workshop with freelance journalists Suyin Haynes and Jessie Lau. We also have several years of editing experience and have been on both sides of the pitching process. Our combined insights can guide you on the latest media trends and how to best catch the attention of busy editors.
In this live session, we’ll cover the basics of pitching reported pieces: from what ingredients go in a perfect pitch and how to research publications, to ways you can market yourself as the best person to tackle the story in today’s saturated market.
We will walk through how to frame story ideas into sharp and compelling pitches for a variety of print and digital outlets – especially on topics related to BIPOC/AAPI/ESEA issues, racial/social justice, feminist movements, and more. The workshop will include a feedback session (we invite participants to send pitches to us for discussion ahead of time) and a Q&A. Attendees will also receive a downloadable presentation and video recording.
A Zoom link will be emailed to all registrants one day before the workshop.
All proceeds of this workshop will be distributed to our workshop leaders and to support the NüVoices’ ongoing editorial and nonprofit operations. We encourage participants and community members to donate to our Paypal page if you are financially able to support our ongoing initiatives.
